Stone Fabricator


Position: Stone Fabricator

Location: Christchurch

Reports to: Team Line Manager

Hours: 40 – 50 hours per week, plus rotational Saturday morning as required

Salary: $34-40 per hour

Role:
Stone fabricators are responsible for shaping and finishing granite blocks into countertops, flooring, tabletops, etc. They use a variety of tools to cut, polish, and shape the stone into its final form.

 

Stone one of the hardest materials, so it takes a lot of skill and experience to work with it effectively. Stone fabricators must know how to handle this material safely and efficiently while still producing high-quality results.

 

Duties:

Stone fabricators have a wide range of responsibilities, which can include:

  •  Verifying that all job specifications are met, including dimensions and weight for each order

  • Meeting with customers to discuss design concepts, material selection, and fabrication options

  • Inspecting various stone materials to ensure that they meet industry standards for quality

  • Operating machines such as saws, sanders, and grinders to cut granite slabs into countertops, tabletops, and other items

  • Measuring the stone slabs to determine their size and shape using a handsaw or computer-based measurement tools

  • Cutting the stone slabs into smaller pieces using saws or grinders

  • Installing a variety of stone countertops by drilling holes for sink, faucet, or other fixtures

  • Selecting the appropriate stone slab for each job order based on colour, pattern, veining, and other characteristics

  • Cutting, polishing, and fabricating stone into kitchen countertops and other applications

 

Criteria:

  • Experience in solid stone is a must

  • A good practical mindset and the desire to complete a quality job 

  • A self-starter with the ability to manage their time autonomously

  • Must be able to lift 25kg

  • Be able to work unsupervised and in a team

  • Full, clean NZ driver’s license required
