Position Summary:

As a Carpenter, you will be responsible for executing various carpentry tasks related to construction and renovation projects. Your primary role will be to bring your expertise and craftsmanship to the team, ensuring that all carpentry works are completed efficiently, accurately, and to the highest standards. You will collaborate closely with other team members and contribute to the successful delivery of projects.
As a carpenter, your primary role is to work with wood and other building materials to construct, install, and repair various structures and fixtures. Your duties and tasks may vary depending on your specialisation and the projects you’re working on.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize your extensive knowledge and experience in carpentry to execute a wide range of construction tasks, including framing, roofing, formwork, flooring, and other structural elements.

  • Work collaboratively with the construction team to carry out carpentry tasks according to project plans and specifications, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.

  • Assist in the procurement and management of carpentry materials, ensuring proper usage and minimizing waste.

  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and promote a safe working environment. Report any potential hazards or incidents promptly.

  • Maintain a high level of workmanship and attention to detail, ensuring all carpentry work meets industry standards and client expectations.

  • Properly care for and maintain carpentry tools and equipment to ensure their longevity and safe operation.

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective interaction with team members, supervisors, and clients to provide updates on project progress and address any concerns.

  • Staying up to date with relevant NZ building codes, regulations, and industry standards to ensure all work is in compliance with legal requirements.

Tasks and Duties:

  • You will be involved in the construction of buildings, houses, and other structures. You may work on framing, roofing, flooring, and other structural components.

  • Install interior and exterior doors, windows, cabinets, staircases, and other fixtures in buildings. You will ensure they are level, plumb, and operate smoothly and are safe. This includes installing door and window frames, hinges, handles, and any additional hardware required.

  • You will be responsible for repairing and maintaining existing structures. This may involve fixing damaged woodwork, replacing worn-out parts, or reinforcing weak areas.

  • You may undertake custom woodworking, creating unique pieces of furniture, cabinetry, and decorative elements.

  • You will take precise measurements, read blueprints, and plan the materials and techniques needed for a project.

  • You will work with a wide range of tools and equipment, such as saws, hammers, drills, levels, and measuring devices.

  • You will interpret construction blueprints and plans to understand the layout and dimensions of the concrete structures they are building. You will assemble and erect the formwork according to the design and ensure it is sturdy and secure.

  • You will install bracing and anchoring systems to support formwork and install steel reinforcement base (rebar) inside the concrete formwork before concrete pouring.

  • You will disassemble and remove the formwork carefully to avoid damaging newly poured concrete.

  • you will install various types of trim and moulding, such as baseboards, crown moulding, chair rails, and window and door casings. You will ensure these elements are cut and fitted precisely to create clean lines and seamless transitions between different surfaces.

  • You will build and install kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, and built-in storage units. You may also create custom cabinetry to fit specific spaces. This task requires careful measurements and attention to detail to ensure the cabinets are level and secure.

  • You will work with drywall and other panelling materials to create smooth walls and ceilings and add an elegant touch to a room. You will be responsible for installing these decorative elements to enhance the room's appearance.

  • You may build custom built-in shelves and bookcases to fit specific spaces, providing functional storage and adding architectural interest.

  • You will be involved in installing hardwood, laminate, tile, or other flooring materials, ensuring it is laid down correctly and fits seamlessly around obstacles and doorways.

  • You will apply finishing touches, such as sanding, staining, and varnishing, to enhance the appearance of the finished product.

  • You will inspect the work for any imperfections or defects and make necessary corrections to achieve a flawless finish.

  • You will be responsible for constructing the framework or skeletal structure of buildings, which includes walls, partitions, floors, ceilings, and roofs. You will work with lumber, beams, and other structural materials to create a sturdy and stable frame that will serve as the foundation for the rest of the construction.

  • You will carefully measure and mark lumber and other materials to ensure accurate cuts and assembly. You will follow building plans and blueprints to create the precise dimensions required for a project.

  • You will use various hand and power tools, such as saws, hammers, and drills, to cut and shape the lumber and other materials. You may cut beams, studs, rafters, and other components to the required lengths and angles.

  • Once components are cut and shaped, you will install them according to the construction plans. This may involve nailing, screwing, gluing, or other methods of fastening materials together to create the framework.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Possess a recognized trade qualification in carpentry from a reputable institution OR

  • Have a proven track record of at least 3-5 years of relevant carpentry experience in the construction industry

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of carpentry techniques, materials, and tools.

  • Exhibit excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to find practical solutions independently or as part of a team.

  • Prioritize safety at all times and adhere to construction site safety protocols.

  • Possess the physical strength and stamina required to perform manual labour associated with carpentry work.

  • Display a keen eye for detail, ensuring precision in all carpentry tasks.

  • Hold a Valid driver's license for potential travel to project sites.
