Technical lead - Senior Geotechnical Engineer


General Function:

Responsible for the planning, technical implementation, supervision and commercial administration of assigned projects in a manner that meets high quality assurance, safety standards of work, and follows accepted industry best practice.

Responsibilities:

Undertake all activities of an experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Chartered Professional Engineer) including:

  1. Undertake Geotechnical investigations and design (directly or manage those under your supervision) to a high standard.

  2. Conduct shallow and deep geotechnical investigation and reporting.

  3. Prepare geotechnical factual and interpretative investigation reports.

  4. Identify and appraise various design options at the concept design stage with a clear understanding of the pros and cons.

  5. Prepare project briefs/plans, project programmes, quality assurance plans, consent documents and schedules.

  6. Ensure the technical adequacy and conformity to relevant standards of projects undertaken by yourself or under your supervision.

  7. Co-ordinate delivery of design documentation.

  8. Prepare quality assurance and consent documents.

  9. Check and review final documentation before issue of any Producer Statements, construction information or reports to ensure accuracy and completeness.

  10. Provide effective construction supervision.

  11. Apply effective engineering judgment to complex site issues to resolve effectively.

  12. Conduct engineering and administrative tasks in accordance with New Zealand Engineering Standards and industry best practice.

  13. Attain efficiencies for our clients by thoroughly understanding project requirements and aligning our delivery to their objectives.

  14. Demonstrate innovation in solutions, products, and construction methodologies that are offered as potential solutions.

Business

  1. Formulate and manage project plans, understand scope of work, plan site visit approach and ensure planned efficient use of time and resources.

  2. Perform administrative requirements for financial information in accordance with the company’s QA Manual.

  3. Record and advise change of project contract scope.

  4. Prepare fee proposals in conjunction with Director.

  5. Keep up to date records and submit timesheets in a timely manner.

  6. Initiate discussions with Director for any new technical systems/procedures to streamline company activities.

  7. Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures to assist in providing a safe hazard free workplace.

  8. Report any hazards on site visits to Safety Officer.

  9. Monitor and control the financial performance of projects; meet time allocations/dates and budgets as required.

  10. Communicate with Job Manager/Director if issues arise impacting this.

  11. Ensure a tidy level of dress both in office and on-site.

People

  1. Ensure clear communication with colleagues, contractors, and clients

  2. Act as primary Client contact and ensure clear and timely communication is maintained on all jobs.

  3. Manage existing clients and maintain service delivery and company profile through good public relations to ensure ongoing workflow.

  4. Develop and manage a portfolio of clients.

  5. Identify potential clients and opportunities, take the initiative in developing opportunities for the client company.

  6. Assist with the planning and co-ordination of staff resources.

  7. Assist in management of staff including coaching/mentoring and checking other team members’ work.
