Position Summary:

As an Electrician, you will be responsible for executing various electrical tasks related to construction and renovation projects. Your primary role will be to bring your expertise and craftsmanship to the team, ensuring that all electrical works are completed efficiently, accurately, and to the highest standards. You will collaborate closely with other team members and contribute to the successful delivery of projects.
As an electrician you are a skilled professional who specializes in working with electrical systems, equipment, and wiring in various settings. Your primary role is to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical components to ensure the safe and efficient operation of electrical systems. Your duties and tasks may vary depending on your specialisation and the projects you’re working on.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize your extensive knowledge and experience in electrical to execute a wide range of electrical tasks.

  • Work collaboratively with the construction team to carry out electrical tasks according to project plans and specifications, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are met.

  • Assist in the procurement and management of electrical materials, ensuring proper usage and minimizing waste.

  • Adhere to all health and safety guidelines and promote a safe working environment. Report any potential hazards or incidents promptly.

  • Maintain a high level of workmanship and attention to detail, ensuring all electrical work meets industry standards and client expectations.

  • Properly care for and maintain electrical tools and equipment to ensure their longevity and safe operation.

  • Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, enabling effective interaction with team members, supervisors, and clients to provide updates on project progress and address any concerns.

  • Staying up to date with relevant electrical codes, regulations, and industry standards to ensure all work is in compliance with legal requirements.


Tasks and Duties:

  • You are responsible for installing electrical systems in homes, commercial buildings, industrial facilities, and other structures. This includes wiring, outlets, switches, circuit breakers, lighting fixtures, switchboards, and other electrical components.

  • You may undertake regular maintenance of electrical systems is essential to prevent potential hazards and ensure the system's optimal performance. You may inspect and test electrical equipment, identify issues, and perform necessary repairs or replacements prevent breakdowns and safety hazards. You may perform regular maintenance tasks on electrical systems to ensure they are in proper working order and identifying potential issues before they escalate.

  • When electrical systems or equipment malfunction, you will diagnose the problem, troubleshoot the issue, and undertake repairs to restore functionality and safety, such as identifying faulty wiring, defective components, or circuitry problems.

  • You may be involved in upgrading existing electrical systems to meet modern safety standards or to accommodate new appliances, technologies, or power requirements.

  • You may assess the need for electrical system upgrades and advise on the installation of more energy-efficient components or technologies to enhance performance and reduce energy consumption.

  • You will analyse and diagnose electrical problems in circuits, machinery, and equipment, utilizing technical knowledge and appropriate testing tools to determine the root cause and implement effective solutions. You will test electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures, using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of system.

  • You will be skilled in running electrical wires through walls, ceilings, and floors, ensuring the correct placement and connection of wires for various electrical devices. You will connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, and other components.

  • You may be involved in the installation of various household appliances, such as ovens, dishwashers, air conditioners, and ceiling fans, ensuring they are connected safely and properly to the electrical system.

  • You will inspect and maintain electrical panels, also known as distribution boards or breaker boxes, to ensure they function correctly and distribute electricity safely throughout the residential or commercial property. You will position and connect electrical systems to power supplies.

  • With the increasing reliance on home automation and smart technologies, you may also install data and communication wiring to support these systems.

  • Domestic electricians may handle outdoor electrical installations, such as garden lighting, security systems, and outdoor power outlets.

  • You must follow safety codes and regulations to ensure that electrical installations are safe and up to code. You will use safety equipment and follow best practices to minimize risks.

  • You will often work closely with other construction professionals, such as architects, engineers, and contractors, to ensure that electrical systems integrate seamlessly with the overall building plan.

  • You need to interpret technical drawings and examine blueprints and wiring diagrams to understand the layout of electrical systems and execute installations accordingly.


Qualifications and Skills:

  • Possess a recognized trade qualification in electrical from a reputable institution OR

  • Have a proven track record of at least 3-5 years of relevant electrical experience in the construction industry

  • Ensure you hold and maintain the required electrical registration and licensing issued from the EWRB.

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of electrical techniques, materials, and tools.

  • Exhibit excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to find practical solutions independently or as part of a team.

  • Prioritize safety at all times and adhere to construction site safety protocols.

  • Possess the physical strength and stamina required to perform manual labour associated with electrical work.

  • Display a keen eye for detail, ensuring precision in all electrical tasks.

  • Hold a Valid driver's license for potential travel to project sites.
