Job overview

Welds and assembles metal pieces and products by using handheld welding equipment. Sets up parts for welding; uses hand tools, clamps, jigs and fixtures. Works from specifications, drawings and weld symbols. Prepares and completes work on materials by welding, cutting, grinding and cleaning metal. Installation are critical part of role where customer care is vital. You will need to talk to your customer, to find out exactly what they require, and keep them informed as to your progress. Every client is different and therefore each job you carry out will also be different. Every customer will have different needs and requirements.

The Employers are a fabrication and installation business who specialise in a wide range of projects including bespoke high end custom plant and machinery for the food industry.

Applicant Requirements

  • Fabrication

    • Read blueprints and drawings and take or read measurements to plan layout and procedures

    • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements

    • Set up components for welding according to specifications (e.g. cut material with powered saws to match measurements)

    • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded

    • Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces

    • Weld components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment in various positions (vertical, horizontal or overhead)

    • Repair machinery and other components by welding pieces and filling gaps

    • Test and inspect welded surfaces and structure to discover flaws

    • Maintain equipment in a condition that does not compromise safety

    • Polish and check the quality of the finished product.

    • Installing of all bespoke equipment

    • Complete Risk assessments and monitor throughout installation

    • Monitoring compliance to applicable codes, practices, QA/QC policies, performance standards and specifications

    • Interacting daily with the clients to interpret their needs and requirements and representing them in the field

    • Display great communicating skills to client and other subcontractors on project / client site

  • Health & Safety

    • 100% participation in Toolboxes, Health & Safety Initiatives & Pre Starts.

    • Ensure reporting all Health & Safety incidences in workshop and on client sites

    • Ensure a clean and organised working environment both at employer's and client onsite.

    • Displays a positive attitude to safety

    • Understands the importance of safety in the workplace

    • Shows personal responsibility towards safety

  • Additionally, any adhoc Tasks as and when required by the business.

  • Reporting to Team Leader

  • Minimum of 40 hours per week, Permanent Role

  • Monday to Friday 7am till 3.30pm, plus working away from home, night shift, on call and work weekends. Overtime is paid at time & half for all day where you work over 8 hours

  • Annual Performance Review

  • Must Have press break experience

  • Certificate, Diploma or Degree in Engineering

  • Ideal experience

    • Experience in MIG & TIG Welding

    • Experience in Stainless & Mild Steel Products

    • Experience in installing bespoke products

    • High level of customer service

    • Knowledge and passion for Health & Safety

Essential Experience

  • Experience in heavy transport, manufacturing, and production environments (not structural)

  • Interpret engineering drawings

  • Fabricate (pick, mark, cut, drill, punch, bend and roll) various parts of truck chassis and fuel tankers and weld into place (brackets, ladders, etc)

  • Bend and weld profiles according to drawings

  • Confident in using a press brake and guillotine

  • Significant fabrication and welding experience in both aluminium and mild steel (3mm-8mm thickness)

  • Proficient in TIG and MIG welding

  • Proficient in welding on a range of joint types/configurations and in a range of positions

  • Able to produce a high-quality bead (without grinding/polishing)

  • Able to assist with tank cladding as per work demands
